| Firestorm/DAO Release 2.4 RC1 |
| |
In addition to exposing tables, views, and custom
SQL statements as Data Access Objects,
FireStorm/DAO 2.4 now exposes Stored Procedures
as Data Access Objects, unlocking legacy business
logic stored in databases. Initially available for
Sybase, Oracle, and SQL Server.
- Continued Usability Enhancements
FireStorm/DAO 2.4 now contains much improved
wizards for reverse-engineering databases and for
generating code, making it even easier to use.
FireStorm/DAO 2.4 now uses an industry standard
XML parser to read/write project files in place of a
proprietary XML parser used in previous releases. This
is in response to demand from CodeFutures' OEM
customers.
FireStorm/DAO 2.4 now supports reverse-engineering
of Sybase ASE databases.
In addition to generating Struts Web applications,
FireStorm/DAO 2.4 now offers the choice of
generating simple JSP pages.

make. In this posting I will give an overview of Data
Access Objects (DAO) and Object Relational Mapping
(ORM) and talk about some of the differences
between them.

"Before we discovered FireStorm/DAO, we were reluctant to write DAO code ourselves as it required a lot of time and effort. Now we can concentrate on the real business logic and application requirements." Kobus Steenekamp, Senior Java Developer, Discovery Health
